Initiative 59
Hippies-"Free" is the one with the moustache.
My advice to people today is as follows: If you take the game of life seriously, if you take your nervous system seriously, if you take your sense organs seriously, if you take the energy process seriously, you must turn on, tune in, and drop out.

Valentine's Day Love
Some big new tunes for your aural pleasure
First up: a Hood Internet remix of Canadian collaboration sensation "Make It Go" by Belly ft. Drake. Who knew that two white guys from Chitown could be so funky? The producers of this track blend a funky hook with a track that I otherwise hate. I have to admit, while Drake is far from what I'd call a good lyricist, I love how smooth he is. The beat blends perfectly with his vocal phrasing making this track nothing short of fiery.
"I know you got a dude but he don't understand
I take you to the islands he cant even buy you sand"
Also just for you here's Blak Twang and Alborosie with a cut that blurs the lines between rap and reggae. This classic, 'Stop n Search', is a scathing criticism of police brutality and disrespect. Both artists are truly at their best in this one and they have a Damian Marley - Nas sort of chemistry, as Alborosie's raggamuffin sounds blend perfectly with Blak Twang's UK patois. The track is an absolute banger and definitely one that should be played at high volume, preferably in a residential area. Special attention should be paid to Alborosie's chorus that begins around 2:30. Here's the text, or what I can make of it, since the actual lyrics aren't readily available:
"Dem a go stop and search
Dem a go push me an curse
Dem a go thief and sell back my Solomon herb
Dem a go give me strain
Dem a go wash my brain
Rastafari no chant in vain"
I'll sign off with a track by Ted Leo & the Pharmacists that tugs at the heartstrings while kicking ass with a crunchy yet hip guitar riff. I'll let the lyrics speak for themselves(scroll down below the video for some poetic goodness), but make sure you look out for the triplet-heavy background around the 2 minute mark, and please please PLEASE make sure you hear the drums slip in at about 2:30, and hear them blend in as if they were never missing.
Me and Johnny sittin' in the green grass -
I don’t remember too much from that far back in the past,
But man, oh man, was Johnathan a laugh
In those days.
Apparently he was my very best friend -
We spent warm summer days wishing they would never end -
But I only know from photographs I look at
Every now and again.
And J-J-Johnny -
Ooh, all he left us was an apple tree,
And ooh, where'd he go, and ooh, why'd he leave,
And ooh, why do I grieve?
Now I don’t ever see Johnathan no more,
But my life rolls on just like it did before,
And I only wonder what it is
That I even miss him for.
Happy days to you and yours, and I hope you had a happy Singles Awareness Day.

By the way
I always find it interesting to listen to the original song AFTER you hear the mashup...in case you haven't been treated to the sounds of Heard of That produced by the Neptunes, you really need to press play
So divinely is the world organized that every one of us, in our place and time, is in balance with everything else.
Battle not with monsters, lest ye become a monster, and if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.
But thus do I counsel you, my friends: distrust all in whom the impulse to punish is powerful!
"There is beauty in imperfection, and knowledge through failure"

eyedea and abilities
tonight, gentle readers, i bring to you the sounds of eyedea and abilities. eyedea is one of the most talented battle rappers alive, you can go to the link under for a video of him taking on brother ali at scribblejam.
http://mcbattles.tv/mc-battle/eyedea-vs-brother-ali/
but what i really wanted to share with you all was his only single that received any attention...you may (but probably won't) remember this song from tony hawk's pro skater. this is big shots, and it features some incredible lyrics:
My favorites are rappers, the egoistical bastards
The people that never clap for your set, they think you're whacker
Than them 'cause they're the masters
I bet disaster is caused in their mind when you rhyme
and plaster their jaws shut with a fat verse
I'm a big shot. Don't front, you know you love me
Girls never wash their hands after they get a chance to touch me
I'm a big shot. Hey, you can say I'm a creep
But put me in a room with your idols and I'll make 'em look weak
I'm a big shot. Shit, can nobody fade me
The only way we can do a song is if somebody pays me
I'm a big shot. Big Shot. Big Props
The best thing to ever happen in the history of hip hop

Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping hereTo watch his woods fill up with snow.My little horse must think it queerTo stop without a farmhouse nearBetween the woods and frozen lakeThe darkest evening of the year.He gives his harness bells a shakeTo ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweepOf easy wind and downy flake. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep. But I have promises to keep,And miles to go before I sleep,And miles to go before I sleep. -Robert Frost
slim thug
just wanted to share this song with y'all, i cannot for the life of me get it out of my head (not that i even want to)
I got something on my neck worth more than yo house
I got something in my yard worth more than yo spouse
I got something on my wrist worth more than ya team
And that car you think clean ain't worth more than my ring
I got something on my neck worth more than yo house
I got something in my yard worth more than yo spouse
I got something on my wrist worth more than ya team
And that car you think clean ain't worth more than my ring

Some more music cause I feel like it. First track from Nas and Damian Marley's upcoming album.
Their first leak was underwhelming, but this new track is fire from the beginning give it a listen.
As we enter come we take you on di biggest adventure,
Must be dementia that you ever thought you could touch our
credentials,
Must be dementia that you ever thought you could touch our
credentials,
As we enter- Nas+Damian Marley
If you're familiar with underground rap group Atmosphere, and you enjoy the indie rap scene, then this chill track should mellow you out a little on the always hectic saturday nights.

Whats good everyone I'm James Hamill Co-founder of this blog along side my good friends Shadi, Buddy, and Max. We're here to deliver you good music, but we'll see what happens. We promise to do our best to use our imaginations and bring you the best music we find plus some other bullshit. ENJOY
After being dormant the last few years M.I.A. is back with a new record this summer. Just this past week she dropped a video for her first single "Space Odyssey" produced by club banger Rusko. The catch is that it was made for under 100$ on her ichat. The slower pace might not be for everyone, but give it a shot.

hatswithbuttons
good evening, fine gentle reader. let me be the first to welcome you to hats with buttons, and let me begin by describing our objective in creating this particular piece of ongoing literature. this blog is dedicated to all that is right with the world, all that emits positive vibrations, all that is artistic and quality and excellent. i expect to deal mostly in music, and i can only assume that my fellow writers, among them the likes of james hamill, buddy bernhard, and shadi bakour, will do the same. but fear not, dear reader, for we will at times abandon the darkness and dream of dawn - we shall mix it up with our opinions, anecdotes, perspectives, directives, and introspections as we see fit.
i'd like to kick this off with a couple of my favorite beats as of late: it's mainly club shit, electro house with 4 on the floor beats, head-noddable synth lines, and that dirty, sexy blacklight sound.
without further ado:
justice's waters of nazareth: this song inspires movement in anyone with a soul. the dirty synth gives the piece a feeling of rawness, an edginess that today's european trance lacks. the cymbal part gives the tune a bit of a fast pace despite the average danceable tempo. if you are into music produced by computers and haven't heard justice, you're in for a treat.
this next tune is called 'we have arrived', by mescalinum united. this is widely considered to be the first gabber track ever recorded, some 20 years ago. its appeal still holds today, however, although the song sounds random, cliche, and perhaps a bit too industrial for a modern audience. if your taste in electronic music is sophisticated enough to work past the drawbacks and difficulties inherent to this tune, you'll appreciate the heavy bass and innovative use of samples and low synths employed by the godfather of hardstyle.
